About Me
My Story
Originally from Dauphin, Manitoba, I grew up across the three prairie provinces — including time in Alberta and eventually graduating from high school in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
After high school, I went back west to Calgary to study broadcast news at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
My first job in TV was way back in high school when I’d operate master control (while mopping the floors, editing shows, and doing the dishes!) at North Eastern Cablevision in Yorkton. My first professional job out of SAIT, however, came at the now-defunct CJFB-TV in Swift Current, where I would report / edit / produce / write / anchor. (Thankfully, I didn’t do the dishes… but I would have to get more than the measly $1100 a month I was making!)
After almost 5 long months in Speedy Creek, I packed up and headed east to Regina to join CJME where I was part of the community cruiser squad known as the “Everywhere Team.” (And we were everywhere!) A couple of months of reporting on teas and bake sales (combined with some very good timing) led to an anchoring and reporting position in the newsroom.
In 2001, I headed back to Yorkton to take on a producing opportunity with Access Communications. It was great fun!
In 2003, I went back to Regina to re-join the team at CJME, starting off as morning show producer / programming assistant. It quickly became apparent to me that while I loved news (and still do), there was a whole other world to discover in programming and talk shows. I learned a lot in Regina over the course of my 4 years there. In 2007, I moved to Saskatoon to be part of the team which launched Rawlco’s interactive division, and in 2008 returned to the radio side of the business to become the program director for CJME and CKOM.
When I’m not at the radio station, I’m doing the things I love — spending time with friends, travelling, and spending time at the gym. In 2009 – after years of being a chunky guy – I achieved a great personal goal in dropping 40 pounds of weight. It was a life-changing experience!
Himpster.com is my personal blog and media site — a collection of thoughts, ideas, and comments on what goes on around me. What you see here does not reflect the views/thoughts/opinions/policies/etc. of who I work for or anyone else. As I say – these are my words.
